AIRDATE Biography
When the guys in Airdate aren't on the beaches of Long Island, they take the stage for fun.. Their adventure began in a basement in East Moriches, NY, when Doug Del Gaudio and Stephen Forys started playing cover songs for friends and winning talent shows at their local high school. Once graduation hit, Doug went to college and put music on the backburner. "It was always in my heart (music), I just knew going to school, being a teacher, and having a great career was the right way to go." Doug said. "Eventually I found myself coming home to my guitar more then my books. That's when I knew I just had to go for it." In the summer of 2006, after crafting a few acoustic songs together, Doug Del Gaudio and Stephen Forys recorded their first demo titled "Problems, Problems." at the Killingsworth Recording Studio on Long Island. "I remember being really excited to finally hear our stuff recorded, I knew it was the start of something special." Stephen said. After touring the tri-state area from 2006 to early 2007 with long time friend and new guitarist Chris Loret, and former bassist Daniel McCabe, they recorded their latest EP entitled "Getting Off The Ground," produced by Mia and Ava Koo (The Kung Fu Girls) and John Neclario of Nada Studios. The EP features sing-a-long favorites, "Walking Alone", "Enemy", "Everytime", and "For You." In the spring of 2007, after Daniel McCabe chose to leave the band for personal reasons, Airdate solidified their lineup by adding long time friend Bryan (Fry) Whichelman on bass. "These guys were all my friends. I knew and loved every single song they ever wrote... So why the hell wouldn't I be allowed to be in the band?" Fry said. In the summer of 2008, Airdate had the chance to work with producer and ex-Hidden In Plain View member Rob Freeman, crafting 5 brand new songs to be released in November of 08'. "This time, I wasn't concerned with structure, hooks, or rules. I wanted to write music that had a little more substance to it.. something that was more than just a sing-along. I think i accomplished the feeling i was searching for this time" Doug says. The band tested a few of the new songs out on the road earlier this year, and got a great vibe from the fans. "It was def a good sign when we saw kids singing these new songs that we havn't released anywhere yet.. not even demos. We knew we were on the right track" adds Steve. As far as sound goes, the band hasn't ventured too far from the "Getting Off The Ground" EP, but there is a noticable progression. "I think the songs are a little more 'in your face' , then the last record. It's a weird thing because we just write what feels great to us. If it's pop it's pop, we love it... we don't care. We aren't putting effort into writing pop songs and attempting to capitalize on it like some bands out there, and I'm proud of that.. we're in this for fun" Doug adds. Rob Freeman has produced a number of bands, most recently Ohio rockers Hit The Lights. When asked how it was working with Freeman, bassist Brian Wichelman said "He was a super-cool dude, he brought really cool ideas to the table, and really brought the songs up to the level they needed to be. Did I say he was a super-cool dude?" Upon the release of the new EP, Airdate plans to make it to a town near you, with new music and wildness!
