Anna Ternheim Biography
Anna Alexandra Ternheim was born on May 31st 1978 in Stockholm. She already started playing guitar very early. When she was 10 years old, she had her first classical guitar lesson. But not in a way you would expect it, with sheet music etc. - no, Anna learnt from hearing and therefore developed her own method of 'composing' music. She already wrote her first song after her first lesson. At 17, she formed her first band called Sova while she was on an exchange year in America, Atlanta. There she also had some performances at little festivals - the first opportunity to play her songs to the rest of the world. Some time later, she did a journey from Stockholm to Switzerland. She studied French for two years in Lausanne. There she had another opportunity to present her songs live. Back in Stockholm, she had the opportunity to study architecture but she chose for music instead. In the beginning of 2003, her EP "Anna Ternheim" was released. After that, she toured with several musicians and as a result more and more people got to know about her. Not much time later, Anna re-recorded new and old songs (also the ones from her first EP), for example the 10-year-old song Somebody Outside in a rebuilt sawmill on Gotland. And like this, her first album "Somebody Outside" was born. Critism from music journalists and fans got more and more, followed by sold-out concerts and many awards (e.g. Swedish Grammy). In 2006, Anna's album was finally released in German stores. There were new concerts and also in Germany music-reviewers and fans were sure: Anna Ternheim - a name you should remember. Eventually her second album was released in Sweden in the early fall of 2006, but already in February 2007 her German fans could enjoy Annas’ second album which was a drastically change from her first album. While her first album represented rather calm sounds, the second album of the Swedish singer contains more instruments and sounds more progressive than the debut. Anna herself said that while making this album she was pretty forced by some horrormovies to create this “separation road sound”. After touring successfull in europe she moved to New York and released 'Halfway To Fivepoints' in the US. It's a collection of material of her albums she released earlier in europe.
