Annalie Biography
Annalie is the eponymous band of singer, songwriter, pianist and actress Annalie Wilson. As a singer songwriter Annalie has been compared to Regina Spektor, Ani DiFranco, Kate Bush and Leonard Cohen. Her music is rooted in early influences of sixties folk & rock such as Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles & Joni Mitchell, with infusions of jazz through the songs of Nina Simone and Billie Holliday. Her eclectic taste also included classical, funk, grunge, rock and hip-hop, all of which have left a mark on her music. Born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, Annalie began playing the piano aged 6, and later learned the harp and guitar. She wrote her first film score aged 15 and in 2001 she won the Leeds Bright Young Things Award for her song "If Only I Knew." She continued to write and perform songs whilst training as an actress at London's Webber Douglas Academy. In 2004 Annalie began singing with jazz/funk band The Jezebel Sextet, where she met drummer Robin Pharoah and bassist Ben Hillyard. She formed a trio and together they won the SEB Collective Acoustic & Vocals Songwriting competition in 2005. In 2006 guitarist Richard Henshawe of progressive rock/metal band Haken joined the band and they began to work on material for the debut album, "The Anomaly Project" which was released on their own label, Scrambled Egg Records, in 2009. Henshawe left the band in 2008, and was replaced by composer and multi-instrumentalist Olly Weeks. Annalie headlined the Slow Down London Festival in 2009, and to date she has performed solo or with the band at numerous London venues including: Lambeth Country Show, The Gramaphone, Ginglik, Ronnie Scott's Bar, 93 Feet East, The Poetry Cafe, The Troubadour, Zigfrid von Underbelly, The Cobden Club & The Water Rats. Annalie made her American debut at Rose Live Music in New York in 2009.
