Am I the Same Girl is a song originally recorded in 1968 by Barbara Acklin and released in Feb 1969. Eugene Record, lead vocalist of The Chi-Lites, had written this song for his wife, Acklin, who recorded it in 1968. But her record company, Brunswick Records Inc removed her vocal track from the record, replaced it with a piano solo by Floyd Morris, and released it as Soulful Strut, crediting it to Young-Holt Unlimited (though neither Eldee Young nor Red Holt was believed to have played on the track, which rather is the work of session players identified only as the Brunswick Studio Band). Acklin later released her own (and original) version of the song the following year, as "Am I The Same Girl" (soulful strut)" - while later re-releases/compilations dropped the reference to "Soulful Strut" and were simply titled either as "Am I the Same Girl?" or "Am I The Same Girl". Among other artists who have covered the song are Dusty Springfield (1969), Swing Out Sister (1992), and Salena Jones (2001).
