Bufon Biography
Bufón borns as a band by mid 1998, when lead singer Osvaldo Garbuyo, bass player Aníbal Pereda (formerly in the band La Yuyera) and drummer Jim Porter (now in Kato) get in touch with guitar player Gabriel Méndez, by an advert. With this formation, the band starts to play in the circuit of Montevideo and to develop a repertoir that lasts till today. In February of 1999, Jim Porter is replaced by Diego Méndez in the drums. This formation is the one that holds on till today. After a couple of years in which the band generates a faithfull group of followers and friends through several gigs in the capital city, 2002 marks a momment of change. The group starts to play in the countryside, travels to Buenos Aires as a sideshow of La Vela Puerca and starts to sound strongly on the radios thanks to the recording of its demo “Dios salve al Bufón”. Besides, it gets the fourth place in the contest Pepsi Bandplugged, among more than 600 bands and plays in Teatro de Verano. Bufón's music travels by many roads, always from a powerful sound. From metal, throughpasando funk, reggae and even jazz, the elements that compounds each of the sons melts to a unic sound. Ossie's lyrics stands for their irony, and its way to treat with wiz and sutility both social and persona issues, achieveing that each listener gets a different interpretation of each song. After much work, 2003 is the year of the launching of Nérpola, the first band CD, with the record label Koala Records. In 2004, the effort done through all these years starts to pay up, and the presentations of the band gets more and more crowded. After playing in front of a multitude of people side showing to Bersuit Vergarabat, and playing all over Montevideo and the countryside, Bufón made the official presentation of Nérpola in Sala Zitarrosa, in a show with lots of guests and sorprises. In November, the band plays in Pilsen Rock of Durazno. Througout 2005, Bufón keeps on touring the countryside, broading its public and preparing new material. In the last days of June the band starts recording their new record in the Estudios Arizona. The recording lasts 4 months during which Bufón keeps playing live all over the country, showing their new materia. This new record is Amor Liviano, edited in November, and marks a growth of the band in all senses.
