Chaplan Biography
Ages 15 to 19 years, Chaplan is an ambitious, melodic hardcore foursome that has written songs mixing thundering drums, driving guitars and dynamic vocals. Their brash and earnest lyrics unveil stories of fractured relationships, resilient confrontations and other life-affirming experiences. Although the members of Chaplan are very young, they have been performing in the Twin Cities and throughout greater Minnesota since their first gig together in August 2001. Chaplan began in the town of Morris, MN in 1999 when brothers Sean and Kyle Schultz along with Jordan Pieske were in elementary school. Sean played guitar and vocals, Jordan played bass and vocals, and Kyle hammered the drums. They played cover songs made famous by their favorite bands at small events around the area. Soon after, Joel Quam was added as another guitarist and singer and the definitive lineup was solidified. After years of writing and performing, Chaplan has developed a divergent style that draws from the emotive sounds of Taking Back Sunday, pummeling attitude of Thursday, and rule-breaking freedom of Saosin. A rousing and combustible live presence, Chaplan appreciates every opportunity they have to perform and every fan they get to meet. Last summer, they performed on the Hot Topic Kevin Says Stage at the Minneapolis stop of the Vans Warped Tour. Their debut album, entitled The Cost of Doing Business, was recorded in June 2006. The effort was produced with punker/rapper/producer Stefon “P.O.S.” Alexander of Doomtree and recorded by engineer Joe Mabbott at The Hideaway Studio in Minneapolis.
