Chill Rob G Biography
Chill Rob G (born Robert Frazier) is an MC from Jersey City, New Jersey. He was part of DJ Mark The 45 King's New Jersey-based Flavor Unit collective, which also involved Queen Latifah, Latee, Apache, and Lakim Shabazz among others. He was signed to Stu Fine's Wild Pitch Records in the late 1980's, and released the album, Ride The Rhythm in 1989. With production from The 45 King, Chill Rob G displays his lyrical skills and dexterity over the course of the album while his style and flow continually changes over the tracks. Ride the Rhythm's songs alternated between a somewhat hardcore sound, including a forceful Gladiators shout, to an easygoing, conversational tone. The album was chosen by The Source as one of the 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums, and has a small but devoted fan base. In 1989, the German pop/rap/dance crew Snap lifted the acappella and sound from his single "Let the Words Flow" for their hit record "The Power" and in turn his label sued them and then released its own version without Rob's involvement and without the original Loleatta Holloway sample. In 1996, he released a single called Let Me Know Something on Echo International in 1996. He later released another album, "Black Gold" also on Echo. In 2002, Chill Rob G appeared on DSP's album "In the Red". He has been shouted out by R.A. The Rugged Man.
