Deaf Pedestrians Biography
Honing a sound that mixes clever, incendiary riff rock, funky groove-heavy white boy jazz, and jump around the room reefer punk, dEAf PEdESTRIANS deliver a spectacular live show with a frantic intensity and wildly theatrical lyrics that's been awing crowds since they first appeared on the scene with their self titled debut album in 2005. Their freshman effort being a boozy mixed bag of hard rock, quirky punk and a few of the most disturbing ballads ever recorded, Dallas-based dEAf PEdESTRIANS take listeners on a cinematic journey through the badlands of the band’s psyche, painting a vivid picture in words and sound that is equal parts horrifying, hilarious, and wonderful. "I think it's safe to say, I was in a pretty dark place during the creation of our first album," confesses PEdS singer/bassist/front-man Charlton Parker. "We all were, actually. But, it's fun to listen to and laugh now.” Whatever their issues, dEAf PEdESTRIANS’ debut proved itself to be a solid rock record that thousands of “disaffected youth” across the country wound up relating to on an intensely personal level. "I can’t help but feel slightly disturbed by how many people really seemed to relate to those songs.” Parker admits. "They attached themselves to that record with a sense of ownership you don't see all the time." dEAf PEdESTRIANS’ impassioned fan base is a real presence on the web, particularly on YouTube where dozens of PEdS fans’ homemade music videos abound. That isn't to say the guys haven't received their fair share of criticism. "I was impressed with how the people who didn't get the record really f*cking loathed it. I mean, f*cking hated it. Which is really pretty cool. ‘Cause for us passionate hatred is always gonna be better than apathy." After the surprising radio and online success of “15 Beers Ago” and “Splatter” (both on the first album), dEAf PEdESTRIANS recorded a handful of tracks, creating a compelling demo that loosened the purse strings of their intrepid New York based Indie label, Dotpointperiod. The result… prime time television exposure, impressive commercial radio airplay, and a deal with Virgin Records. The song that made it all possible was “Hail to the Geek”, a tribute to the comic book culture Parker had grown up with. "People still come up to me claiming “Hail to the Geek” is their life story...and then they ask me if I've been spying on them," Parker quips. The band released ...And Other Distractions on Virgin in the spring of 2008. "We were still stuck in that naive mentality that being on a major label was going to solve all our problems," Parker says. "I guess there is nothing like actually being on a big label to show you just how out to lunch the majors can really be." So, after extricating themselves from their all too typical bad corporate label experience, dEAf PEdESTRIANS went into the studio with chips on their shoulders and proceeded to record We're All Gonna Die… their best music to date. “We definitely had something to prove," Parker says. And thanks to the band’s efforts, their fans have been rewarded with a 12 song album they can listen to all the way through...over and over again. We’re All Gonna Die is a rich offering of addictive melodies, scintillating guitars, clever & meaningful lyrics, and body shaking rhythms that promises to take dEAf PEdESTRIANS a long long way. - iTunes Download of the Week' “15 Beers Ago” - Over 200,000 free downloads and over 30,000 sold. - dEAf PEdESTRIANS (self titled debut) Dallas Observer Readers Choice: Best album of 2005. - “15 Beers Ago” and “Splatter” and “Hail To The Geek” have received airplay on more than 75 radio stations across the country. * “Hail to the Geek” has been featured on CW's, Beauty and the Geek and MTV's, My Super Sweet 16 - dEAf PEdESTRIANS have shared the stage with Papa Roach, Staind, Seether, Chevelle, Theory of a Deadman, Finger Eleven, 3 Days Grace, Saliva, Live, Dope, Flyleaf, Black Stone Cherry, Sick Puppies, Seven Mary Three, Burden Brothers, Stone Sour, Blue October, Hinder, Blue Oyster Cult, Drowning Pool, Crossfade, Sevendust, Days of the New... and many more.
