Feloni Biography
MUSIC REVIEW: MASTERDISK, NYC: "If you like your female rappers rough, rugged, and raw you need to check out FELONi. In a different twist or flavor this female rapper can hang with the likes of Remy Ma, Lil' Kim, Trina, and Shawnna. With banging beats and vicious lyrics, this rapper has a lot to say. So if you have an open mind take out some time to hear what she has to say." -Tony Dawsey....Tony is the progidous Sr. Mastering Engineer behind Jay-Z's American Gangster, Kingdom Come, The Black Album, The Blueprint and other multiplatinum artists. REAL DETROIT WEEKLY MAGAZINE: Feloni is a Queen Latifah for the new millennium, with the wicked tongue of Lady of Rage and sex appeal of Da Brat. Latifah, who has been denying gay rumors about herself for years, opened up her 1993 hit “U.N.I.T.Y.” by yelling “Who you callin’ a b*tch!?” Now, the torch has landed in Detroit, with Feloni taking feminism further. -THOMAS MATICH ABOUT FELONi Look her up in the "Urban Dictionary" and you'll find Feloni being described as the "Godmother" of the "out" urban, lesbian hip-hop movement, and it couldn't be more true! In 2005, she was the first to break on the scene with the racy debut single "Brand New" proclaiming, "I took yo' 'b*tch'!" In 2007, she was also the first "out" urban female rapper to drop an album, "A Woman's Revenge" spittin' entirely from a lesbian's perspective while other artists chose to hide or ignor their sexuality. Should art be seperate from the person creating the art? How does an "artist" keep it "real?" While many artists still ponder those important questions, Feloni choose to say it loud and proud, taking on all haters. So get it right! She's definitely hip-hop's new "underdog." And if you don't have Feloni's debut album, you're missing an important development in hip-hop's history. Love it or hate it...she's here! Feloni is an indie, underground recording artist born and bred in Detroit, Michigan. She is an aritst who is able to "mack" her game while expressing her sexual autonomy. Her style of music flips the script on male posturing and is changing the politics of the game by changing the subject of domination and the object of control. On her debut album, "A Woman's Revenge," Feloni used the current language of rap as a mirror to project back to rap the mysogynistic elements of hip-hop in hopes of sparking progressive discourse on the issue. And of course, some of the boys left "the yard" feeling a bit let down saying, "No 'milkshakes'...just 'cherry bombs!" Feloni's "controversial" debut single "Brand New" was 1st featured on the Russell Simmons & WJLB-FM 98 2005 Detroit Hip-Hop Summmit Mixtape which also featured Detroit's own Trick Trick (Koch) and Tone Tone (Jazze Pha's artist). If you ever heard the popular hip-hop phrase "My Girl Gotta' Girlfriend," Feloni's music definitely helped inspire that phrase. Feloni and her music ("I Can't Stop"..."Brand New"..."Pussi Can" and "Fien'n 4U") was also featured on her episode of the controversial reality show, "Coming Out Stories" on MTV's Logo network. Feloni writes all her lyrics, and is Executive Producer of her debut album, A Woman's Revenge" in which she mixed and recorded 90% of the album in her apartment's walk-in closet. Feloni's music was also handpicked by Sony to host an international remix contest to help promote their AcidPro 6 software on AcidPlanet.com. Her album was self-released January 2007 on her self-owned indie label, Trak Diamond Records which is currently available on iTunes and all major online outlets. Feloni was also fortunate enough to appear on the 2007 Grammy Award's ballot in the "Rap" category. She has a growing fan base and has amassed over 22,000 fans on myspace and other social networks via word of mouth alone. She has opened for Hip-Hop's Icon, DJ Spinderella of Salt-N-Pepper, and major artists, like Jadikiss' D Block: Stypes P and Sheek Louch. Big Proof-R.I.P.-of D12, and Feloni were both members of the indie Detroit organization, "The Movement." The Movement consisted of 6 CEOs from independent record labels who got together to pool their resources to help promote their artists on a national level. Feloni was the only female CEO (representing Trak Diamond Records) voted in the organization. Feloni says Proof told her that people in hip-hop were going to hate on her because she's "out". He said hip-hop would fight to keep her out the game, but she had to keep moving no matter what happened. She has been doing just that. Feloni says what Kanye West first went through as an "Underdog" in hip-hop is not even remotely close to all the "hate" she's experienced as Hip-Hop's new "Underdog." However, Feloni says, she loves the challenge because it inspires her to continue to break barriers and open people's mind to what they fear and don't understand. Feloni is now working on her sophomore album, "Love Spent"-an album, she says, will show that she's a skilled and protean artist who is proficient at keeping it "Real." Feloni describes her style as being similar to Tupac's style in the sense that they both have the ability to be "raw" yet "poetic" at the same time. Currently, Feloni is self-managed
