Gaudi Biography
London based music producer and solo artist. Gaudi's eclectic style and versatility has kept him at the forefront of his field throughout a notable and prolific career. His music, which is an organic fusion of Dub, Electronica and Worldbeat is on the playlists and regularly being performed live in the UK and internationally. He has been stretching the boundaries of music since the start of his career in the early eighties. From a very early age however, Italian born Gaudi cultivated his obsession with music by constantly searching for and experimenting with new forms of sounds and grooves. A classically trained pianist with a fascination for anything that could produce sound distortion, his musical foundations were set in electronic and reggae music. After being at no.1 in the UK Chart with his remix of Cool Jack’s “Jus’ Come”, Gaudi has remixed a vast array of artists, most notably: Bob Marley, Lamb, Simple Minds, Fatboy Slim, Scissor Sister, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, 1 Giant Leap, Artful Dodger, Africa Bambaataa, Shpongle, Noiseshaper, Doof, Trilok Gurtu, Omnimotion, among others… (see “remix” page on www.gaudimusic.com for a full list). With 9 solo albums up to date, 250 music productions, 54 remixes and 83 compilations featuring his tracks, Gaudi is now present again in the UK and USA Charts, this time on iTunes, with his last 3 albums “Bass, Sweat & Tears” (Interchill records, #2 Europe, #31 USA) , “gaudi:testa-CONTINVVM” (Em:t records, #3 Europe) and “Re:sonate” in collaboration with “ambient legend” Pete Namlook (Fax Records, #14 Europe, #48 USA). The album “Bass, Sweat & Tears”, is now the Interchill’s best selling album; an organic fusion of dub and nu-beat with a hint of psychedelia; it is inspired by native cultures from around the world and takes the listener on a journey from Burkina Faso in Africa to Iran, Pakistan and Northern India, from Papua New Guinea and the Amazon rain forest to Italy and Spain. It is an evocative, deep and elegant work in which indigenous themes and global beats contrast and compliment each other. The key undertaking in Gaudi’s work is to unify different forms of music from around the world and represent them in his own personal style, while at the same time, most importantly, keeping the heart and significance of the cultural roots. Also his recent release “gaudi:testa-CONTINVVM” is Em:t’s best selling album up to date; a concept album of dark atmospheric electronica written with sound therapist Antonio Testa, where experimental electronica mixes with ancient instrumentation and organic sounds such as: Water, Shells, Stones and Stalagmites. Gaudi’s most recent album “Re:sonate” is a collaborative project with “ambient guru” Pete Namlook, an elegant work, a dubby melding of analogue synths, rippling percussion, skilled programming and immaculate production inna “deep/dark dub” stylee; released worldwide by legendary German ambient label Fax Records. After his recent world tour, Gaudi is now back in the studio, producing a tribute album called “Gaudi- a tribute to Nusrat”, a series of tracks featuring the legendary vocals of “Pakistan’s Premier Ambassador of Qawwali Music” Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan,… in dub! This will be released worldwide in May 2007. Another important release will see the light next year: Gaudi & Greg Hunter (from “The Orb”) are releasing their first collaborative project together!...stay tuned. New compilation “Sub Signals – vol.1”, out in September by dub label Sub Signal (affiliated with Interchill), exploring the darkest side of “Dub, Nu-Stepper”. www.gaudimusic.com
