Gs Megaphone Biography
Powerful rock music, uncompromising lyrics with a passion for God's message was the cornerstone of GS Megaphone's debut album "Out of My Mind" The album was critically acclaimed and nationally recognized for its unique rock and roll style with a message that spoke intimately to the youth of today. The freshman album garnered three Dove nominations and their radio singles soared high on the Christian Rock charts. Critics and fans alike were curious how GS Megaphone could possibly follow up such an astonishing release. The results are now in and Beautiful World is the next album to add to your collection. Doug Van Pelt (HM Magazine) states it best when he wrote, " I am soaring and flying, because there is magic on this album...while "Out of My Mind" lived up to its title in my own personal collection, this one I am freaking out over and talking to people about." The album cover undeniably sets the tone of this challenging album. The cover embraces the face of a small boy and through his eyes you are able to catch a glimpse of his worries and pains but when you look a little deeper you will also see true beauty through these eyes. GS Megaphone poignantly entitled their sophomore release Beautiful World. Randy Shreve, drummer/writer, reveals his insight on the title track, "Beautiful World just reminds us that in the midst of all the pain, fear, terror, and turmoil in the world, sometimes we just need to step back and enjoy this beautiful place God has blessed us with." Beautiful World additionally has something fresh to offer: The East and West become united musically. Fans will take notice of aggressive melodic rock with an Eastern thread woven throughout the album. This stylistic change materialized partially because of the influence that Chris Freeman and Daniel Rosas add to GS Megaphone. They joined the band after the first album was almost completed. Shreve states, "They have really stepped up and further defined who GS Megaphone is musically. This album brings smiles to guitarist everywhere". The first radio single released to Christian Rock radio is Light Child. Shreve states, "The message is very clear. It is a simple plea to God asking Him to shine so bright in me that people won't be able to see me." The song, Venom addresses the issue of spiritual warfare that each of us deal with in our Christian walk. The lyrics remind us of how tempted we are in our flesh: "Your poison was effective I must admit. / I was afraid to love, I was afraid to hate / I was afraid to fail, I was afraid to win." The song offers hope to each of us when we struggle. These lyrics challenge us to remember: "I don't keep my weakness from out of view / Jesus is my Protector, my Healer and my God / So now you know there's Someone after you. Ben Shreve, brother to Randy and lead vocalist, gives a star studded performance on this album. He really has stepped out of the box for his vocal presentation and stretched himself beyond everyone's imagination. Sadly this band isn't around anymore...
