Jamie Notarthomas Biography
Jamie Notarthomas is a singer-songwriter and guitarist from the Syracuse, NY area. His self-titled 1989 debut earned him a strong regional following, and he began to earn a reputation as a top-notch live act. Notarthomas briefly relocated first to Chicago, then to Colorado, in the hopes of finding success on a larger scale, but ultimately returned to upstate New York around the time of his 1994 release, "Heads or Tales." On this album, he was backed by a combination of local rock musicians and luminaries such as John Popper and Trey Anastasio. Notarthomas continued his trend of one album every five years with 1999's "Climbing Out of the 20th Century," a purely solo guitar-and-vocals effort (plus one piano-and-vocals track). His latest album is the 2008 CD "The Crow Convention," named after the annual, inexplicable throngs of crows that gather in Cayuga County, upstate New York. He continues to tour small venues, mostly in upstate New York, with only occasional ventures into larger markets. In 2002, Notarthomas collaborated with popular children's author Rita Schiano on a song called "Tiny Acts of Kindness," in response to the tragedies of September 11, 2001 and how resilient children had been in the face of these events.
