John Paul Young Biography
1. John Paul Young, b. June 21, 1950 (Glasgow, Scotland). After relocating to Sydney in 1966, he was 'discovered' by songwriters and record producers Harry Vanda and George Young. His breakthrough came in 1978 with the worldwide dance hit "Love Is In The Air,", peaking at #2 on the Australian charts, #7 in the USA, and #5 in the UK. He gradually faded into history, until the film "Strictly Ballroom" was released in 1992, featuring a remixed version of "Love Is In The Air." The film was a worldwide success, and catapulted the song into the limelight once again to a new audience, peaking at #2 on the Australian charts, and one again played in clubs around the world. JPY is now a celebrated TV personality in Australia. 2. John Paul Young, leader and keyboardist of canadian punk rock band Cardboard Brains (formed 1976). In 1980 he released a new set of semi-autobiographical recordings, which he called “The Life of Ermie Scub”, on which he played all the instruments. These are the dark tales of a presumably lonely boy, an errant genius who was clearly ahead of his time and lost in his own fantasies.
