Lesyah Biography
Meet Lesyah "Your yesterday need not become your tomorrow." Music rescued Lesyah when she was a teenager. It has pursued her all over the world, from underage R&B, dance and pop performances in country pubs and clubs, through Karaoke bars and nightclubs to recording in London and songwriting in LA. Her irrepressible and versatile power vocals have kept bringing music fans to her even when she's been in the most unlikely places. Lesyah laughs when talking about one of her lucky breaks "I was singing at home one day and a neighbour came to my door and asked who was singing. I thought she was annoyed because I was too loud or something so I blamed my friend. She explained that she thought I was great and invited me to come over to her house and jam with her Husband and their friends who were all musicians. When I went over, one of their friends heard me and asked me to come to this cool little bar in Surfers Paradise where I was offered the opportunity to sing Aretha Franklin covers and soul classics with an amazing band including a brass section, of course I accepted! It was awesome, I loved it, some of my happiest moments were singing with that band" After an accidental start as a performer, Lesyah quickly found that her talent stood out. There were also some tough lessons learned in the time Lesyah spent singing up and down the East Coast of Australia. "I've played in some magic and tragic places. Lesyah's reputation for straight to the heart communication with her audience and live performance experience grew quickly. Another chance meeting has brought Lesyah to the world stage. "I met my Manager Maggie Britton when I was visiting a friend in hospital who had just had a baby. I was buying something for my friend from the pharmacy across the road and I struck up a conversation with Maggie at the counter. Maggie asked me what I wanted to do with my life and I told her I wanted a life in music." "Maggie began working with me in the studio recording song's written by great writers from the UK and USA who she had been friends with for many years." A demo package was put together for the purpose of gaining feedback. Lesyah has written with several songwriters, locally, interstate and overseas. "I started writing some time ago now. I'm more of a lyricist than anything else. English was one of my favourite subjects at school so I have a love of words and word play. All up I've written about 30 completed songs and have a whole bunch of thoughts, hooks and snippets." Through new Australian Independent Record Label 'Oak Records' Lesyah has found the support needed to push her through to the next level. "It was arranged for me to have a face to face meeting with Ian Mack and Paul Middleton at Right Bank Studios in London where they presented some (I thought) fantastic songs for which I then decided I'd love to record." Lesyah then headed to LA where she got to hang out with two music legends, Bob Clearmountain and Steve Kipner and write with Carl Graves - lead singer of 60's Pop/R&B group Skylark. Now back in Australia, Lesyah is looking forward to her first release 'Give It Up', her other already recorded singles to follow and then her album due next year. "This has been a very long, winding and bumpy road up to this point, with lots of surprise turns and dead ends." I'm looking forward to the next part of the journey, the songwriting sessions, the studio's and lots and lots of live shows! I am looking forward to meeting and greeting anyone who turns up to support me at my shows. Most importantly, I can't wait to bring it to ya all in the flesh, raw and real on stage!!!"
