Lights Over Paris Biography
Lights Over Paris shine brilliantly on their Turn Off The Lights EP. In fact, chances are, you’ve never seen or heard anything like this Los Angeles six-piece. The band seamlessly weaves anthemic rock ‘n’ roll hooks with pulsating dance rhythms and a little bit of hip hop thrown for good measure. First single “Turn Off the Lights,” produced by Kevin Rudolf [Lil Wayne, Cobra Starship, Lifehouse], is vibrantly vivacious, shifting from a danceable verse into a fist-pumping refrain. Meanwhile, “Medicine” is powerful pop that floats on the wings of soaring synths and a raw guitar edge. Lights Over Paris never fail to burn brightly. Vocalist Robb “TaLLLLL” University describes their one-of-a-kind sonic movement. “Each song is completely different because they’re all amplifications of our diverse personalities. We play what we want, and the music is always going to be fresh and new.” The band—Robb, Will Pepper (Keys), Devin Bronson (Guitar), Mike Torres (Bass), Dave Gentry (Drums) and Shiny (DJ)—could be sonic superheroes. From Robb’s larger than life pipes to Will Pepper’s keyboard sorcery, each element makes for evolutionary dance rock. They’ve even got their very own mascot TaLL Mysterio; you definitely haven’t seen that before…Robb goes on, “No two tracks are alike. You go from synths to no synths to an anthem to a club track.” The first single, “Turn Off Lights,” exemplifies their inimitable style. With production by mega-hot producer and artist Kevin Rudolf, it’s got the spark to set off a dance floor or a stadium. The song also immediately began lighting up the charts as soon as it went to radio. “Turn Off the Lights” is currently in rotation on numerous Top40 stations across the country, and it’s been downloaded over 30,000 times. The music video, by RockHard Films [Lady Gaga], premiered on Yahoo Music’s highly trafficked home page on June 3, 2010, and it’s been viewed almost 1,000,000 times on YouTube. The band was also the first in history to be featured on Pandora with only Digital Distribution. Further tightening the sound, Tom and Chris Lord-Alge [blink-182, Sum 41] and Serban Ghenea [Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Brittney Spears] also mixed this first EP. “Turn Off the Lights” grabbed everyone’s attention from the get-go. Lights Over Paris initially came together in 2002 via a very happy accident. Robb had created an AOL profile and listed “Singing In the Shower” as one of his hobbies. Will searched for singers nearby and stumbled upon Robb. Instantly, they bonded. Robb continues, “We recorded five songs after first meeting. Those songs eventually got us to meet Kevin Rudolf.” The EP officially dropped in April via Digital Records/Type One Records, and it’s a fitting prelude to their forthcoming full-length album. “Rescue Me” is one particularly potent track. Robb divulges, “I became obsessed with the FX TV show Rescue Me, and I had to include it in the chorus for a song. You really feel Denis Leary’s performance.” You’ll also really feel Lights Over Paris because everything they do is uplifting. Robb concludes, “There are choices I’ve made because of my favorite bands. I want kids to feel that way about our music. I want them to be inspired to do something that they might’ve been afraid to do before. We’re already creating a community with our fans as well. This is the start of something.” Turn off the lights and get ready to rock with Lights Over Paris…
