Llymbo Biography
We are four sinners saved by the grace of God. we strive to love like Christ, help anyone we can, and play on as many stages (or floors) as possible. music is our passion, and we use it to glorify God the best we can. we aren't perfect, nor do we claim to be. we are the lowest of the low, and that is who we try to reach. Llymbo was established during the summer of 2004 in Arlington with original members Donny Buford (Guitar), Colt Cross (Bass), David "Dick" Jenkins (Vox), and David Moore (drums). Very soon after their formation, "Solace" was released as a 3 song EP, recorded live at the Asylum in Fort Worth Texas. A few months after their origin Colt Cross left band and Sam Grun from Caliber 45 joined as bassist right before recording their first full-length album "Autonomy" at Studio 920 in Weatherford TX during November and December of 2004. Although the band was not very happy with the outcome of "Autonomy" due to poor production the group proceeded to release it on January 2, 2005 on Dallas/Fort Worth's Christian Rock station, indie radio show, Spin 180 and went on to sell 500 copies locally (at shows only). In mid March Donny Buford thought it was time to move on and and left the band. Sam moved his position over to Guitarist and Kalen Orr from Allen, Texas soon joined Llymbo as the bass player in April of 2005. During this time of transition Llymbo still played their set based off the songs found on "Autonomy" because of it's recent release, yet they still felt like the album didn't really represent them as a band anymore. They soon began to work on new material which went in a more technical, progressive, direction, straying away from the near Rock/Alternative sound found on "Autonomy". After much time spent honing a select 4 new songs. (Nostalgia, Save Your Hope, Carpe Diem, and A Breath Away) In late 2005 the plan was the self produce and record an EP with these 4 songs plus a re-worked version of "The End" (originally on Autonomy). But after some technical issues only 2 songs out of the 5 were completed and the band decided to release it as a 2 song demo called "Remote Control Children" on February 23rd, 2006 at the liquid lounge in Dallas Texas during the European Emergenza competition. Llymbo made it to the finals of the Emergenza competition (winning the two previous rounds) facing the top 12 independent bands in the southern states and the top 56 in all of the US. All in hopes to win and go play in europe. Llymbo did well in the final competition musically, yet was weak in the area of professional image which ultimately cost them the competition. Despite the devastating loss, the band pressed forward and received the opportunity to play on the 102.1 The Edge local show in Dallas Texas with acts like She Killed Poetry, and Dryline. Llymbo wanted to prepare a new single for the show, "Save Your Hope", but were not able to complete it in the time crunch. Partially because guitarist Sam Grun's heart wasn't in the band anymore, and after a poor performance on the local show it was obvious there was a mutual understanding that Sam should leave the band. During this time Llymbo took a break to re-focus their vision as a band and wanted Llymbo to be a full-force ministry, and finding the perfect guitar player was vital to this change seeing that he needed to share the bands vision. In late 2006, bassist Kalen Orr became friends with former lead singer on the band Subseven, Wesley Fite; who was working on a side project called "Quint". Even though Llymbo was taking a break, Kalen still wanted to play and write new music, thus Kalen and Wesley got together and wrote some alternative songs under the name Quint. Wesley also recently had become friends with James Worsham, who had played with the Metal band Donna Mea; but recently quit. James joined Wesley and Kalen as guitarist of Quint and Wesley's old friend from Oklahoma, Greg, jumped on as drummer. They practiced together a total of 2 times before going on a Oklahoma mini-tour. During this time Kalen got to know James and after they returned, Kalen asked James if he would temporarily play guitar for Llymbo, (due to the fact James was also working on another project called Belemaire.) James was reluctant at first, but eventually Belemaire fell through and James made the decision to Join Llymbo full time. The next 4 months were devoted to equipment upgrades and getting the live show better than it had ever been. On April 13th Llymbo played it's first show back with James, and even with a Tornado touching down that night hurting attendance, it was still a successful show. Now Llymbo began to consider what direction they should move musically seeing that James had different tastes than Sam. They wrote their first song together in their newest incarnation, "Salveme" (Save me in Spanish). It was the first step towards the sound that people now know to be Llymbo. Through out 2007 Llymbo had many additions and losses of members. Will Fordyce, a long time friend of the band join as the Keyboard player, and Kirk Holder from Sealed by Blood join as second guitarist. But Will found it hard to fit his keyboard parts in with the band's already existing sound and really wanted to play guitar in a band. So it was a mutual decision to leave and join Mouth of the South as one of their guitarist. Kirk fit well with the band but over time he missed his old band that he had started, Sealed by Blood. He eventually left the band in pursuit of resurrecting his "baby". Through out this time Llymbo attempted to record a new album but with all the member changes the project kept getting pushed back. Finally after a year of recording, mixing and mastering (from 2008-2009) the foursome released their newest project with a heavier more straight forward, Hard Rock sound, "This Love Will Conquer All" on May 30th 2009 with an Explosive show and performance packing out the Door in Fort Worth. This was the first project released by Llymbo that they are proud of and feel represents them properly. Since then Llymbo has received radio play on 8.97 Power FM and has plans to open for acts like the Afters and Blindside. They are currently in the early processes of writing for their next project and shopping labels.
