Mahasin Biography
Born and raised in Harlem, USA in the heart of The City that Never Sleeps, Mahasin’s love and talent for music began. Though singing has always been a part of her earliest memories, she was quite often too shy to express her talent to anyone but herself, and it wasn’t until she joined her JHS chorus that her talent began to blossom. While attending The Julliard School in NYC on a scholarship to study music theory and trombone, she honed her music reading and writing skills. Around the same time, she was also accepted to study vocal performance at LaGuardia High School, one of New York’s most prestigious specialized public high schools. While choosing to fore go her Performing Arts studies for a more academic route, she continued to study keyboard, trombone and vocals in her spare time. Later, as Mahasin was attending the University of Maryland, she took a brief hiatus from music altogether. But something was missing, so she decided to transfer back to New York to study Music Management and Business at CUNY Baruch College. It was at this time that she joined the Shabar Music Production Company and really started to write and produce her own music. Pursuant to her two internships at Capitol and Columbia Records, she understood the importance of not just writing music for herself, but also for the masses. Thus her first two albums “Hot Pink!” and “Wind It Up!” were born. New York has supported Mahasin on many stages including but certainly not limited to Manhattan’s own Harlem Week Festival and Brooklyn’s World renowned Brooklyn Academy of Music BAM Café Live. She recently spread her wings to perform in ATL’s own Independent Soul Music Summit and graced stages such as Café Circa and Over Da Edge. In addition to her solo projects, she has performed background for the likes of Meli’sa Morgan and collaborated with countless Independent artists and musicians. Most recently, she lent her voice to the “Be a Humanitarian” project in support of raising money and awareness in the wake of the tragic Haitian Earthquake. Appearing on such radio and internet stations as NYC’s WKRB 90.3 Rhythm & Soul Radio and The Netherland’s Danceteria PHAT 50, Mahasin’s music has proved to have a true crossover appeal. Being a child of the 80’s she couldn’t help but be influenced by the mainstream appeal of such Pop Icons as Michael Jackson, Madonna and Prince. Understanding the strength of how their music was able to bring people together, Mahasin aims to make people forget what genre of music they’re listening to by making songs that will inspire anyone; inspire them to feel, sing, or just dance! The last few years have been great to this rising star. She has developed into a sassy singer / songwriter whose perfect blend of Pop and R&B has become a force to be reckoned with. Her sound has continued to not only get bigger but also better and as long as her passion for music exists, she refuses to stop.
