Por Favor Is Spanish Lyrics

I wrote Por Favor in the fall of 2005, while I was studying abroad in Milan, Italy. The lyrics are pretty self-explanatory and basically true. If you've heard the old version, you might notice I changed the words in the chorus. The old chorus was kinda funny but super harsh, and I decided that it wasn't very fair. I mean writing a song about other people isn't ever fair anyways, since they aren't there to defend themselves, but I thought that chorus was especially innaccurate, both to them and to my own feelings about the situation. So I changed it, and changed the melody in the process. When we were working out the songs back in Louisville before we recorded the album (for about a month I practiced with Anthony Brock, who played drums on the record, and Bryan Whiteman playing bass), I had a lot of trouble with this song. We kept trying different arrangements, but it just didn't seem to be working. Eventually we came up with a decent version, but I figured it would just be a B-side. Then in the studio Mike Sapone (the producer) had a lot of cool ideas for it, which made it a keeper. I had come up with the little palm-muting riff in the verses, but then he had the idea to switch up the timing of it, which made it a lot cooler. The very beginning of the song was his idea too, copying stuff from the bridge to the beginning. The lead guitar parts were some of the last guitar parts we recorded, and I was totally burnt out. It had been a couple weeks of 11 hour recording days for 6 days a week, and Anthony had gone home so it was just me and Sapone all day every day, and I was just totally spent. I remember recording these parts and being pissed cause I thought they sounded like shit and I was totally sick of all my songs and just over it. But now they are some of my favorite parts on the album, which just shows how poor a judge I was at that moment. We used this whammy-wah pedal on them, and Sapone would be messing with it while I basically just fucked around on the guitar, trying to do as many bends as possible haha. Most of my favorite parts on the album are stuff like that, where it was total teamwork with Sapone twiddlin those knobs. For the heavy intro part I was super happy cause we tried out a bunch of different pedals on the guitar, and we ended up using this compressor pedal that I built from a kit. Basically all of the guitars on this one were my Gibson Nighthawk run through this awesome old Marshall JMP. We did vocals on this one pretty early, but I was super sick so they sounded terrible and we redid them later, thank god. We've never played this song live as a full-band, but I think we'll learn it for our tours in March. It should be a fun one. I've played it acoustic a bunch, but its kinda goofy that way.
