Meet The Sky Biography
The Early Days: In the fall of 2008, four musicians came together at a Moes in Charleston, SC and decided that there would be no other option than to start creating music. The goal was to create indie pop rock music that was easy to grab a hold of, but not surfacy to the point that there would be no depth to its lyrical content. At the helm of the songwriting are front man Ricky Taylor and drummer Josh Luke who stream many of their influences from bands such as Copeland, Barcelona, and Lydia. Joining with them is guitarist Brian Jarvis and bassist Austin Campbell, who each had successful stints previously in fronting other bands. With all of the pieces now in place to begin the writing process, Meet the Sky began on its journey. Recording their first EP with producer Taylor Bray (The Dirt and The Flood, The Lovely Few) in October of 2008, the band came out of the studio with 4 songs that accurately expressed their musical desire to maintain an indie band feel, while incorporating different elements of the pop rock world into the mix. With their debut EP released February 4th of 2009, expectations are high for this group. Whether it's their catchy melody lines or their meaningful lyrics, the band's hope is to embrace the calling that has been placed on their lives and point people ultimately to the hope that lies within the songs themselves. With more studio time slated with producer Lane Johnson (Rookie of the Year, the Record Kid), the future is an exciting place to look forward to, but it's hardly the focus. Meet the Sky's desire to progress musically is constantly on the forefront as they move from a relatively unknown band into the mainstream, but as they tred toward the future, they sure don't disappoint with their current offering. Nowadays: Meet the Sky has added a fifth member and look to redefine themselves with a more mature sound as they draw near to their exciting new release, "Wake Up Your Heart". Nearly every song has an in your face moment, whether it be musically or through lyrical provocation, and forces questions that point to answers greater than the tangible. If you haven't heard Meet the Sky before now, "Wake Up Your Heart" is a good place to start listening.
