Melrose Biography
Melrose: (1) Finnish band. (2) Dutch band (3) R&B female group. (1) Melrose (FIN) was formed in 1981 by Mika Tokela (lead guitar), Repa Nurmi (2nd guitar), Mika Rantanen (drums) and Jari Piilola (vocals). They started out as a rock-a-billy/50's rock'n'roll combo in Länsimäki, Hakunila. The name Melrose came from the text 'Melrose S&A Club 1962' which was on Tokela's baseball jacket. Soon the original singer, Piilola, left the band and Tokela took over the vocals. By the time they made their first single, the band had shifted from being a somewhat odd rockabilly quartet to a kind of psychobilly trio with the line-up of Tokela (guitar & vocals), Repa - who had switched from guitar to upright bass - and Jami Haapanen on the drums. They quickly became known for their energetic live shows and the distinctive image that made them stand out from the crowd. The current members are Tokela (vocals & guitar), Jami Haapanen (1984-, drums) and Roger Nieminen (1991-, bass). (2) Melrose (NL) is a Dutch band with five band members: Erik, Dik, Rob, Mattheus and Arjo. Melrose became famous after their single 'o'. A lot of football suporters sing the song during the football match. (3) So, who is Melrose? They are the answer to what's missing in R&B. Sure alot of people say that, but the proof is there. Just take a look and have a listen. They've got the look, the voices, the personalities, and the SWAG. First there's Toni from Atlanta...the southern belle who is the Melrose Kitten. Then there's Mylah from the Midwest...the cool girl with edge for days. And there's Kelee from LA...the little diva with the huge voice. Not only writers, these girls are writers, dancers, and performers to their core. With hitmaker Adonis behind them, and heavy hitters like Bryan Michael Cox, Rodney Jerkins, and Danja on the tracks, Melrose is definitely poised to take the R&B game by storm! Don't say we didn't warn you!
