Michael Franks

Michael Franks is a singer and songwriter from the United States. Born in La Jolla, California in 1944,but raised in Washington Heights, New York; he began singing folk-rock, accompanying himself on guitar, in High School. He studied music in college, earned an M.A. from UCLA in Comparative Literature and a PhD from the University of Oregon, and taught undergraduate music courses. He continues to teach at UCLA. In his lengthy career he has worked with a vast range of musicians and singers and to date has over 20 albums to his credit over a period from 1973 - 2006. Most of his albums boast a wide range of the who's who of artists from David Sanborn to the Breckers, Larry Carlton, Joe Sample, Patti Austin and Brenda Russell. Having lived on both sides of the coast -NY & LA - his music has more than a smattering of both jazz influences giving him a style all to his own.
