The stars of 5 Seconds of Summer are utterly embarrassed by overly romanticised fan fiction.
The Australian pop rock band, which is comprised of members Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin, has millions of adoring listeners all over the globe.
But while reading fan fiction about themselves, the musicians confess their cheeks often turn red with mortification due to the grossly inaccurate and highly sentimental storylines.
"It makes you sound embarrassingly romantic, which makes me feel bad about my actual self," Ashton said during an interview with the U.K.'s BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show, admitting he's read fan fiction about himself online in the past.
Guitar player and vocalist Michael echoes his bandmate's take on the phenomenon.
"That's very true," Michael noted. "They do these things online called 'imagines.' And it's like, 'Imagine going on a date with Michael and you take a moonlit walk down the beach and stuff.' When, in reality, we go for a date and it's like, you go for popcorn and coffee. And then you go to the club... We just go to the pub."
However, there are certainly some real life romances happening within the group, as lead singer Luke recently spoke about his joy at being able to publicly express his love for girlfriend Arzaylea.
He has been dating the 21-year-old since last summer (15) and during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Luke admitted he hated hiding his relationship with Arzaylea from lovestruck fans.
"It's hard," he told the publication. "One of the weird things is you want it to be a secret, but you don't want it to be a secret."
