Aaron Carter explains Duff comments

Aaron Carter will always want a chance to "redeem himself" with Hilary Duff.

The two stars dated when they were teenagers, with their two-year relationship coming to an end in 2003, after Aaron was reportedly unfaithful. Hilary moved on and married Mike Comrie, although they separated in January this year, with Aaron using Twitter to declare he was still in love with her not that long afterwards.

Hilary recently admitted she found Aaron's behaviour strange as she no longer feels she knows him, with Aaron now attempting to explain himself.

"I wish her all the best with her music. Obviously, we were a thing when we were younger, but we don't know each other now. I get how it could be weird. So I'm going to leave it at that, there's nothing really for me to say," he told RadarOnline. "We don't know each other now. In the way I put it, I made a mistake when I was younger and I'm always going to want a chance to redeem myself. That's how I look at it."

The 26-year-old star didn't expect his Twitter musings to be so widely reported, and he was shocked when his comments spread around the world.

This isn't the only time Aaron has attracted media attention. He's previously spent time in rehab for a Xanax addiction and is now proud to be clean. These days he is focused on creating new music and insists his career is all he needs.

"I'm still in recovery," he explained. "I'm still dealing with all different kind of things that are crutches on me. [But] when it comes to a party lifestyle, the party is at my show when I'm on stage. When I get off the stage, the party is then in my bed."

Aaron has dealt with bankruptcy, which he claims was due to poor financial decisions made on his behalf when he was a young teenager. His back taxes are now paid off and he in a good position as far as money is concerned; something he is proud of.

"The valuable lesson I learned is how to be a man and how to take responsibility and own up to something even when it's not your responsibility, doing it anyway, and then getting it resolved," he said.
