According to Reuters, Malaysia's Islamist opposition party, the Pan Malaysian Islamic Party, has demanded that authorities cancel a planned concert by former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert. The party says that the concert is promoting "gay culture" in the mainly Muslim country. That is a big no-no in the country and read on to find out more.
The Pan Malaysian Islamic Party, also known as PAS, has also threatened to call "as many of its members and supporters" to proselytize to concertgoers if the performance happens.
"Adam Lambert's shows... are outrageous, with lewd dancing and a gay performance that includes kissing male dancers, this is not good for people in our country," said PAS Youth leader Nasrudin Hasan. Homosexual sex is a criminal offense in Malaysia, hence the uproar.
Foreign acts often draw protests from PAS. The group has opposed performances by pop stars like Beyonce, Rihanna, Gwen Stefani, Avril Lavigne and Mariah Carey, to name a few.
What do you think of PAS' objection to Adam Lambert? Should he cancel his show? Or should he not give in, in favor of the freedom of expression?
