Alex Turner has spoken out in support of Metallica at Glastonbury (sort of), saying that he'd love to see the band play to a 'bunch of hippies'.
Speaking at the band's Finsbury Park shows last weekend, the Arctic Monkeys praised the festival for shaking things up with the announcement of the metal icons as the Saturday night Glasto headliner. At the same time he did highlight that they certainly don't fit with the status quo but states that is a good thing - most of the time. He also questioned whether Glastonbury is still just a bunch of "hippies".
"Yeah man well I'd love to see Metallica play to a bunch of hippies. Is it a bunch of hippies anymore though? That's kind of...," he tells NME. "But you know certainly that they ain't really shot straight with that decision, but I think that's a credit to the band, one, and the festival. I mean that's why we love Glastonbury innit? Because they do that shit."
"It's not necessarily meant to add up, in fact I'd be more supportive of the idea that it doesn't most of the time. Like obviously we love Metallica, we've played with them before, y'know Lars is sort of a mate of ours y'know. Well it is the first metal band that's headlined, it really is pretty out there as a decision, but that's not a bad thing if you know what I mean."
This year at Glastonbury Arcade Fire, Metallica and Kasabian will headline for one of the most rock heavy line ups the festival has seen in years. Glastonbury will take place at Worthy Farm Somerset on 25-29 June.
