Alice Cooper avoided the drugs scene because he didn't want to end up in jail.
The veteran rock star has battled alcohol addiction in the past, and has been sober for 30 years. Despite his alcohol dependency, he has always steered clear of drugs.
Alice did so because he didn't want to spend time in prison.
"The last thing I ever wanted to do was go to jail, and back then you didn't just get a slap on the wrist if you were caught with drugs," he explained in an interview with the UK edition of OK! magazine. "They put you straight in jail."
Since conquering his own addiction to alcohol in the mid 1980s, Alice has continued to help and counsel other rock musicians battling addiction problems.
The 63-year-old has given his stance on the situation today.
"You know, looking at statistics, I think drugs should be legal and alcohol and cigarettes should be made illegal. They kill more than drugs do," he said.
