"We're a bar band tonight," Alice Cooper declared from the small stage of the Whisky A Go-Go Thursday where the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was celebrating the release this week of his "Welcome 2 My Nightmare."
Flanked by guest guitarists Steve Hunter and Orianthi, Copper started adding rock classics to his hit-laden set -- the Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar," the Animals' "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" -- before bringing out several other guests. Ke$ha, who is featured on Cooper's new album, joined him for "School's Out," which included a bit from Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall," after bouncing around in the upstairs VIP section. Doors guitarist Robbie Krieger accompanied the band as they tore through "Break on Through" and Willie Dixon's "Back Door Man."

Cooper shared stories about the logic behind them playing the Whisky: When the band arrived in L.A. from Phoenix, Ariz., in 1968, the Doors were the first band to befriend them. He remembered two gigs at the club in 1969 -- one on a bill with Led Zeppelin and another with Pink Floyd. On a drunken visit in 1970, Cooper saw Eric Burdon and the Animals perform at the 400-capacity venue.
Rob Zombie and KLOS DJ Jim Ladd introduced the band. Among those on hand to watch Cooper perform were Universal Music Enterprises CEO and president Bruce Resnikoff, Shout! Factory's Bob Emmer, Rondor Music president Lance Freed, Tom Morello, Eric Singer and Cheech Marin.
The one hour, 15 minute concert was broadcast live on local rock station KLOS. Cooper played only one song from the new album, "I'll Bite Your Face Off," which he said "if that sounded like the Stones it was on purpose."
Cooper finished the U.S. leg of his "No More Mr. Nice Guy" tour in August and next head to Australia and Europe from Sept. 22 through Nov. 19, when the band plays Moscow.
