African superstars AMADOU & MARIAM release their new album, 'Welcome to Mali', on Monday 17th November.
The album, on Because Music, is the follow up to the duo's celebrated 2005 'Dimanche à Bamako', which sold more than half a million copies in France alone and won the duo numerous accolades including the prestigious French Victoire de la Musique; 'Album of the Year' and 'Best African Album' in the BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music, as well as nominations for a Grammy and MOBO awards. The Malian duo was also the first African act to be shortlisted in Mojo Magazine's annual Honours List in 2006.
The new album features a track produced by Damon Albarn called 'Sabali' - which will be the first single - plus special guest appearances by K'naan, Keziah Jones, 'M', Toumani Diabate, Tiken Jah Fakoli and Juan Rozoff. 'Welcome to Mali' was produced by Marc-Antoine Moreau and Lauren Jais who, together with Manu Chao, were co-producers of 'Dimanche à Bamako'.
Amadou & Mariam will also be performing in London later this year as a prelude to a worldwide tour.
