It's coming down to the wire on "American Idol," and with just four singers left in the competition, song selection means more than ever.
So as the top four rehearsed for Wednesday night's show, MTV News asked them how they were planning on bringing down the house ... and move one step closer to the season 12 crown. And while some played it close to the vest — "Expect the unexpected," Amber Holcomb said, "you should never be able to guess what I'm going to do" — others let us in on their strategies for what's shaping up to be the "Idol's" biggest show to date.
"It's all about song choice and performance ... I'm singing 'Hurts So Bad' by Susan Tedeschi; I can't wait, because I've sang this song since I was eight, and I've always loved her," Kree Harrison said. "So, for me, it's going to be more about performing and not thinking about it, just being one with the crowd and the cameras and the audience at home. I just want to connect."
"I love Jesse J and Beyonce; I've sang three Jesse J songs on the show, and I'm about to sing another," Angie Miller added. "I've sang two Beyonce songs on the show; I love them as artists, and the songs that they sing and the message they put out in most of their songs."
Still, with a top four so evenly matched, and a race that's as wide-open as any in "Idol" history, the most important thing on Wednesday night may not be choosing a song, but connecting with one.
"At first, when I would choose songs, I would choose them in terms of what the judges, the producers, and America would say," Candice Glover said. "But after a while, I was like, 'You know what? I'm doing this song, and I'm going to put my own spin on it, and if you like it, vote for me, if you don't, better luck next week if I'm still here.'
"And I think after I sang'Lovesong,' and I saw the reception that I got from the crowd and America, I finally was like 'They're accepting me for who I am, so let me go ahead and do more stuff,'" she continued. "That's what I did last week, and that's what I'm doing this week. I'm happier now because I'm doing what I want to do, and not what I think they want me to do."
