Amy Winehouse refused to attend her 25th birthday party because she felt too "ugly".
The troubled singer would not leave her house after becoming distraught over her drug-ravaged appearance, leaving guests waiting at the bash – organised by close friend Remi Nicole – at London's Jazz After Dark club on Saturday (13.09.08).
A source said: "Amy was standing in front of the mirror telling everyone how rough she looked. Unfortunately, her lifestyle has had a major affect on her appearance and it's only just started to sink in.
"She kept saying she was ugly and was in an awful state." Remi spent three hours trying to coax the 'Rehab' star out of her house, but eventually became so annoyed she left.
The source added: "They couldn't get her out. Remi and Amy had a huge row. "Amy can be very selfish – there was no convincing her and she ruined the night for everyone, including herself."
Guests - including DJ Mark Ronson and singer Adele - began arriving at the event at 9.30pm and thought Amy was just running late, with her friend Blake Wood telling the owner Sam Shaker not to serve any food or drink or allow the band on stage until the singer showed.
However, just before midnight the revellers – which included Amy's mother Janis, who was on crutches – became tired of waiting and began drinking, while the band finally performed.
Sam said: "It was her mum Janis that I felt so sorry for. She was crying – she was so upset."
The party eventually ended at 2.30am, with many guests going back to Mark Ronson's room at London's exclusive Haymarket Hotel to continue the festivities.
