The Amy Winehouse Foundation launches today.
Set up by Amy's family and friends, the Foundation will stand alongside Amy's music as her legacy.
The Winehouse Family are creating this charitable body in Amy's name to benefit young people in the UK and around the world.
Since her untimely death on July 23rd this year, there has been an international outpouring of love and goodwill to Amy's family and friends. Many of Amy's fans and well wishers have contacted the family to ask if there is a way that they can help.
Amy loved children and the family wants the foundation to support causes that would have been close to Amy's heart.
Amy`s Dad Mitch comments:
"I was in New York when I received the terrible news about Amy. It was almost instantaneous, this feeling that we need to help people she cared about. Amy was very generous and we kept coming back to the thought of how much she loved children. It seemed appropriate that the focus of our work should be with young people, those who are vulnerable either through ill health or circumstance. Amy touched millions throughout the world and I know she will continue to, through the Foundation."
The Foundation will raise money to support projects and charities that need help for specific causes.
Amy's mother Janis comments:
"We want to give money to projects that make a direct difference. It is a source of great comfort to know that Amy would be proud of this and right behind it."
One of the first major donations to the Foundation will come from sales of Body & Soul, the track Amy recorded with one of her favourite artists, Tony Bennett. It was recorded in March this year at Abbey Road Studios in London.
Mission Statement:
"To Support charities and organisations undertaking charitable activities in both the United Kingdom and abroad who help, support, or care for young people - especially but not exclusively those who are in need by reason of ill health, disability, financial disadvantage or addiction."
