Amy Winehouse was turned away from visiting husband Blake Fielder-Civil in prison after arriving too late.
The troubled singer was refused entry by the warden of London's Pentonville prison when she appeared at a back entrance after visiting hours to see Blake, who is currently on remand for assault and allegedly perverting the course of justice.
A source said: "She was pleading with the prison officials to let her in because she's desperate to see him, but they were having none of it. "They just told her if she wants to see him then she should turn up on time like all the other visitors."
The singer then reportedly comforted herself with a chocolate binge after being spotted buying a basket-full of calorific sweets at a north London supermarket.
An onlooker said: "She looked like she was stocking up for a pretty massive comfort-eating session."
Meanwhile, the 24-year-old star has been praised as a "fashion icon" by Victoria Beckham.
The Spice Girl said: "Amy has a real sense of style that I just love. She's very much a fashion icon and I adore what she wears. She's so unique and original.
"I've never met her but I just love her music - she's an amazing singer." Amy - who recently cancelled all performances for the rest of the year on the advice of her doctor - is reportedly "determined" to display her singing talents at the Grammy Awards at Los Angeles' Staples Centre on February 10. Her representative said: "Amy is thrilled to be nominated in six categories and is very much hoping to attend. She is determined to be ready and well for that performance."
