Drummer extraordinaire 'uestlove promises a supergroup fronted by Amy Winehouse.
The skin-hitter for The Roots has turned himself into a musical locus of late, leading the house band on 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' and attracting collaborators from all corners of the musical spectrum.
The Roots latest album How I Got Over features guest spots from Joanna Newsom and members of My Morning Jacket and Dirty Projectors, but it's his recent suggestion of a Winehouse-led supergroup that is most interesting.
'uestlove told Spinner that he has heard Winehouse's new material recorded with Salaam Remi (who assisting in producing Frank and Back To Black), dubbing it "amazing". He also revealed that they've been in talks to collaborate.
He said a supergroup featuring Winehouse is "definitely going to happen" and is only being stymied by travel hiccups.
"It's just that we have to work overtime to get her visa situation together. The closest she can come to the States is Jamaica. I'm actually going over [to Europe] this week ' I'll be in France for four, five days, so I'll see if she's up for discussing this over dinner. We've been Skype-ing the shit out of each other."
Much like everything else Winehouse-related, we'll cross our fingers but won't hold our breath.
