Amy Winehouse was a 'normal kid' who was unaware of her 'enormous talent', says her father.
The British songstress died aged 27 in July after a long public battle with drink and drug addiction. Amy was famed for her soulful voice and spine-tingling lyrics.
Her father Mitch Winehouse says the singer had no idea how special she was.
'Amy was a normal kid with an enormous talent that she didn't know anything about. She didn't have a great idea of her own talent,' he explained.
'She was appreciative of other songwriters and I'd tell her, 'You write songs like that.' A light of creativity would just come on in her head.
'She also designed a couple of Fred Perry collections which are extraordinary.'
Mitch says his daughter was always honest.
The pair had a famously close relationship, and Mitch insists Amy would always tell him the truth ' even if it wasn't always great news.
'She was an honest person. She'd say to me, 'I'll always tell you the truth, so if you don't want to know, don't ask,'' he told BBC Breakfast.
Amy was found dead in her North London home on July 23.
Toxicology results released in August showed there were no illegal substances in her system at the time of her passing.
Mitch has a good idea as to the cause of her death.
'She had recovered [from her drug abuse] but the damage had been done. I've got a pretty good idea. October 26 is the coroner's conclusion so we'll find out,' he said.
't wasn't drug related.'
Mitch misses Amy's thoughtfulness. The international sensation would always put others before herself, he claims.
'She'd call me all the time. She phoned me on the Thursday [before her death] and said 'Dad, Dad, I've found the box of photos [that we'd misplaced.] You've got to come round,'' he recalled.
'The beautiful thing about her was out of the 150 photos in that box there was only one of her. She loved her family.'
