Maestro Andre Rieu has written and performed a new waltz for the coronation of the King and Queen of the Netherlands.
King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and his Queen Maxima were sworn in at a ceremony at Amsterdam's Nieue Kerk last week after his mother Queen Beatrix decided to abdicate at age 75 after a 33-year reign.
Andre Rieu wrote 'The Coronation Waltz' especially for the ceremony and performed the piece live for the coronation.
Recently rumours about the health of Andre Rieu spread across the internet promoting the maestro to make a statement to deny the stories. "This is not true. I'm in very good health, we just gave a fabulous Coronation Concert in Amsterdam for a 60.000 people audience and at this moment I'm touring in Denmark. (…) It was due to the preparations for the Coronation Concert, which was a lot of work as you can imagine, that I had to postpone my promotion tour in Australia. I will do this tour at the end of august and we are all very much looking forward to our Australian concert tour in October."
Australian and New Zealand tour dates for Andre Rieu are:
October 12, Brisbane, Entertainment Centre
October 16, Sydney, Allphones Arena
October 18 and 19, Melbourne, Rod Laver Arena
October 23, Adelaide, Entertainment Centre
October 25, Auckland, Vector Arena
October 28 and 29, Perth, Perth Arena
