Angus Stone reveals a darker more contemplative side on the brooding rhythm and blues of his first solo album released on Flock Music on April 6th.
Angus wrote, sang and played electric and acoustic guitar on the album which he co-produced with his accomplice 'Finn' (Govinda Doyle) on drums and bass. The album was recorded over 6 weeks throughout 2008 in an old water tank in the scorching hills of North QLD, Australia.
"I've been skipping off in between tours for about a year now to shake my head of these songs" explains Angus. Every one of the emotions in your head has it's own voice and this album is what became of them'.
Smoking Gun sees Angus move further into the alt music underground, embracing a myriad of themes, emotions and genres on his first solo excursion. On Silver Revolver Angus looks down the barrel of one's own responsibility and on Home Sweet Home travels back in time with a song that features a choir from his old primary school. On other songs he resumes his role as an observer – Jack Nimble being a tale of a mans heart taking over his world and the song Anna about a girl who's lost her way or perhaps never found it in the first place.
With his sister Julia, Angus Stone has built a remarkably devoted following around the UK. Their debut album A Book Like This garnered critical acclaim and stormed the top ten in their native Australia. A new album from the duo is expected later this year.
