Annie Lennox's daughter Tali doing "alright" following the fatal kayaking accident which killed her boyfriend.
The Eurythmics singer almost lost her daughter in August 2015 when the couple's kayak capsized while Tali and her partner Ian Jones were paddling up the Hudson River in New York. They became separated and Tali was rescued by a passing boat, while Ian's body was discovered two days later.
Annie has now spoken out about the tragedy, insisting Tali, now 23, is doing fine and the incident has given her a new appreciation for life.
"She was involved, as you know and many people know, in a really sort of fatal accident," she tells U.K. chat show host Lorraine Kelly. "Tali is here, Tali is alright.
"It was awful. And I think when you have experiences like this your gratitude for life it becomes like a day to day thing. I think about people on a daily basis that have to live with such tragedy and loss and I empathise with them always."
Annie adds she is "very close" with her daughters, including Lola, "even though they live thousands of miles away" and being a mother motivates her and gives her a sense of purpose.
She admits her parents' deaths have also contributed to her drive, adding, "Both my parents died of cancer and I understand what that's about and I think the thing is to find a reason to live and in a funny way these things that happen to you, for everybody, the dark things that happen to people, they can either destroy you or they can give you a sense of purpose.
"So for me I think that's really what has driven me for so many years is just to find that purpose and find that passion."
Lola and Tali are Annie's children from her second marriage, to Israeli film and record producer Uri Fruchtmann. Annie married South African gynaecologist Mitch Besser in 2012.
