The 32-year-old actor and his 48-year-old spouse are renowned for their avid use of the social networking site and constantly post pictures and updates about their lives on it.
The pair tied the knot in 2005 and are happier than ever together, so Ashton sees his Twitter account as the perfect way to let the world know he is smitten.
"Sending sweet nothings on Twitter or Facebook is also fun," Ashton writes in an essay titled Has Texting Killed Romance? for the new edition of Harper’s Bazaar magazine. "In some ways, it's no different than sending flowers to the office: You are declaring your love for everyone to see. Who doesn't like to be publicly adored?"
However, Ashton – who has previously posted photographs of Demi in a bikini on his blog – admits the internet isn’t always the best way to share intimate information.
He has warned people to think twice before they make public anything that could potentially damage someone’s reputation. "Just remember that what you post is out there and there's some stuff you can't unsee," he advised.
Even though the heartthrob is happy to gush about his stunning wife online, he accepts it isn’t a substitute for complimenting Demi in person. Ashton insists nothing can compare to physical contact when it comes to showing your feelings for loved ones.
"When someone needs us, he or she needs all of us," he explained. "There's no text that can replace a loving touch when someone we love is hurting."
