It was recently announced the 33-year-old actor would be replacing Charlie Sheen on the popular American television show, and Ashton still can’t believe his luck. The hunk was officially unveiled as a cast member at an event in New York yesterday and is believed to have signed a contract worth an estimated $1 million per episode.
"I've never probably in my 13 years in show business received more phone calls and e-mails from people congratulating me on this job. You'd almost think I won the lottery or something, which I kind of did," he quipped at the CBS network’s Upfront presentation. "I've got the best job in show business, and I am ecstatic about that."
Ashton was joined at the event by his new co-star Jon Cryer. The comic actor insisted he was looking forward to working with Ashton, but joked he was already feeling slightly inferior to him.
"I'm incredibly happy they're bringing Ashton to the show, but the question that I have to ask is, 'Did you have to get the tall guy? Really? Is that necessary?'" Jon laughed. "But I brought myself to a place of incredible excitement about our new beginning, which I refer to as One and Two Half Men."
Ashton was invited to join the show after troubled actor Charlie was sacked earlier this year for making a string of negative comments about producer Chuck Lorre, network CBS and production company Warner Bros.
