The Two And A Half Men star has also issued an online apology for not getting his facts rights before he tweeted about the sacking of Pennsylvania State University coach Joe Paterno.
Kutcher had posted a message on his Twitter page slamming the firing of the 84-year-old legendary coach, but later admitted that he had not been aware of the scandal and thought the dismissal was based on Paterno’s sports performance.
He originally wrote: “How do you fire Jo Pa [sic]? As a Hawkeye fan I find it in poor taste.”
But following a barrage of abusive replies, the 33-year-old actor, who has more than eight million followers on Twitter, immediately retracted his comments and tweeted: “Heard Joe was fired, fully recant previous tweet! Didn’t have full story.”
But now the Twitter aficionado has announced that he will be taking a break from the social networking site.
He tweeted: “As of immediately [sic] I will stop tweeting until I find a way to properly manage this feed. I feel awful about this error. Won't happen again.”
He also backpedalled from his earlier remark by saying: “As an advocate in the fight against child sexual exploitation, I could not be more remorseful for all involved in the Penn St [sic] case.”
