The news of Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger's engagement took most of the world by surprise, considering no one really knew the two rock stars were evendating. According to People, their love blossomed while working together in the studio on Lavigne's new album, and Kroeger popped the big question on August 8 with an even bigger 14-carat diamond ring.
Since Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams' love story tanked a few years ago, Chavril takes reign as the new Canadian power couple. And as such, the world starts hypothesizing what might go down at the biggest wedding the Great White North has seen since Pierre and Margaret Trudeau.
The very bankable rockers have sold more than 80 million records worldwide, so there is a lot of pressure to get the music just right. That's why we — with the help of Canadian radio personalities Devo Brown, Taylor Kaye and "Dammit" Maurie Sherman of KiSS 92.5 FM Toronto decided to help them put together an all-Canadian wedding playlist:
» Bridesmaids/ Groomsmen Entrance Song: Carly Rae Jepsen, "Call Me Maybe": We might not be sure about the nitty-gritty details of the wedding, but one thing is certain: It's going to be one heck of a party. And when the bridesmaids and groomsmen start mingling, they're going to need an anthem. It was either this or Dru's "Getting' It In," and we thought to keep it classy.
» Couple's Entrance Song: Drake, "Best I Ever Had": This couple has had their fair share of relationships. Lavigne leads with the most public including her nearly four-year marriage to Sum 41's Deryck Whibley and her most recent hook-up with reality star Brody Jenner. Alas, Lavigne picked Kroeger. "Let's be honest, they've both had some ... umm, fun. So, this just might speak for itself," Devo Brown says.
» Vows Song: Hedley, "Kiss You Inside Out": Although Lavigne and Kroeger seem like an unusual couple, a friend of the Lavigne family told People, "he makes her so happy." This upbeat, romantic rock song seems to suit the edgy yet down-to-earth pair and with lyrics like, "I'll be the calm in the storm you're looking for." How can you go wrong?
» First Dance Song: Justin Bieber, "As Long As You Love Me": We know Bieber is probably not on either Lavigne or Kroeger's iPods, but like Maurie Sherman says, "Isn't it Canadian law that the Biebs must be on all Canadian wedding playlists?" Plus, this song is working it out with the one you love, and we all know marriage takes work.
» Reception Song: deadmau5, "Ghosts N' Stuff": There is no better way to kick off a party than with some good ol' EDM. Resident Canadian artist deadmau5 has this section on lock. This club banger is sure to get the whole wedding party up on the dance floor and away from the buffet tables.
» Honeymoon Song: Robin Thicke, "Sex Therapy": Before you scream bloody murder, Robin Thicke is a Canadian citizen by default of his father and we know, or hope, there will be a lot of sex therapy going on during this couple's honeymoon. Taylor Kaye was flabbergasted with our choice saying,"That's baby-making music!!! First comes love, then comes marriage ... could you imagine Avril pushing a baby carriage?" We can, and we will take full credit if it happens as a result of this list.
