Avril Lavigne on 'emotional' wedding

Avril Lavigne had "goosebumps all over" as she wed Chad Kroeger.

The popstar married the Nickelback frontman in a gothic ceremony near Cannes in the south of France earlier this month.

Walking down the aisle in a black Monique Lhuillier dress was very special for 28-year-old Avril.

"I had goosebumps from head to toe and my eyes filled with tears. It's a moment I will never forget as long as I live," she revealed to Hello! magazine.

"My body was overtaken by emotion. I saw him and he was so calm and happy.

"He had a tear coming down and he wiped it away. I felt so good walking to him. It made me feel like a complete woman."

Along with her untraditional wedding gown, Avril carried a bouquet of black roses, wore dark make-up and chose a French chateau for the occasion.

While it might not be the norm, it was ideal for the Canadian star.

"I wanted it to be over the top. I'm obsessed with castles and I love French decor and Goth. I found this castle and it was perfect," she smiled.

"I also wanted to make sure it was a crazy vacation and an experience of a lifetime for our guests."

Chad and Avril started dating on July 1 2012 and married exactly a year later, on Canada Day.

Tying the knot so quickly seemed like the right decision for the romantic Nickelback musician.

"It felt like the stars had aligned. It felt like fate was intervening and I was being given this wake-up call, 'Don't let this one get away,'" the 38-year-old opened up.

"And I think she felt the same way and that's why I proposed in such a short time span, because we wanted to start our lives together."

Avril has been married once before, to Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley.
