She later takes a bath with her clothes on and lies helplessly on the floor of an empty room wearing nothing but a skimpy slip-dress.
Lavigne fans are busy trying to work out who the song is about and if there’s a chance she wants to reunite with her ex-husband Deryck Whibley.
Whibley is a fellow Canadian and front man of the band Sum 41.
After the video's release Lavigne took to Twitter to ask her fans’ verdict on the video, writing: “What do you guys think of the new 'Wish You Were Here' video? It's simple but emotional. Raw and real. Stripped down.”
But she did not give any indication of who the lyrics might have been written for.
The song comes from her album Goodbye Lullabye, made by RCA Records - part of Sony Music Entertainment.
