Avril Lavinge denies snubbing award

AVRIL LAVIGNE has slammed rumours that she snubbed an award at a recent presentation and said she never actually agreed to attened the ceremony.

The Sk8er Boi singer was expected at Canada's annual Napanee Multicultural Festival in her home town of Napanee on Saturday.

Fans were told she would accept a trophy for cultural contributions through her music but she didn't appear at the event.

A spokesman told the audience: "The person I was dealing with who made certain promises to me about Avril (or her father) appearing evidently did not keep their promise".

But Lavigne insisted that there was no way she could have attended because she hadn't even heard of the ceremony until the story of her no-show broke online.

A statement on her MySpace.com blog said: "Avril was not committed to attend the Napanee Ontario Multicultural Festival. Her management had no knowledge of this event.

"She appreciates the honour, however to say that she 'flaked and didn't show up' is completely untrue, as she had no knowledge of this event whatsoever. Avril is currently in the U.S. working on her 4th album."
