B.B. King to perform free Nelson Mandela Day gig in Madrid

B.B. King will perform on June 2nd at Teatro Circo Price (09.00 pm). This concert is the kick-off of the musical activities for Nelson Mandela Day 2010 Madrid.

Nelson Mandela Day was born following huge international success of the celebration of Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday in London in 2008. The following year the inaugural international Mandela Day celebrations took place in New York, again with the same success. Now Madrid has been chosen to host the first and official Nelson Mandela's International Day in 2010, following the UN resolution last November that declared July 18 as the International Day of Nelson Mandela.

Nelson Mandela Day 2010 Madrid is delighted to announce that B.B. King has agreed to perform a free concert in honour of Nelson Mandela on June 2nd. B.B. King is without doubt one of the greatest blues guitarists of all time, and this will be a unique occasion to see him on stage. Access to the show, conceived as an invitation, is free. The show will also count on the presence of many celebrities supporters of Nelson Mandela Day 2010 Madrid.

Nelson Mandela Day is a social movement and a call to action by individuals,for people everywhere to take responsibility for changing the world into a better place. Nelson Mandela has dedicated 67 years of his life to the struggle for human rights so now his foundation, 46664 / Nelson Mandela Foundation, is asking everyone to devote 67 minutes of their lives to a good cause, whether it be an NGO or doing a good deed for someone they know.

46664 has developed an online web resource (www.46664voluntarios.es) to allow people to be part of this initiative by "donating" 67 minutes on a specific volunteering project provided by one of the different NGOs who have joined this Project or will be joining in the future. The number 67 is a symbol of how people can start, taking one small step at a time, and so become part of a continuous, global movement for good carrying out volunteering tasks and making every day Mandela Day.
