A 50th Anniversary Tour for the Beach Boys seems a bit more certain today after a Rolling Stone article on the group.
According to the magazine, the surviving members of the group (Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston) got together at Capitol Records Studio A in Los Angeles over the summer and recorded a new version of their 1968 hit Do It Again. Jardine told them "Even the veteran sound engineers were moved. Not all of us are left, but there are still enough of us for that vibration to come through."
The big news is that the recording session may be used as a promotional video for the group's 50th anniversary world tour. According to Jardine, "We'll do maybe 50 amphitheaters here and 50 or 60 overseas. It'll be whenever the buyers think is the best time for us. We're wide open for that."
The question becomes who is "us?" Others have talked about a 2012 tour but Brian Wilson always quickly chimed in with no knowledge or plans for going on the road with the rest of the members.
What's more certain is that there will be a series of archive releases over the next year, kicking off with the November 1 release of The Smile Sessions.
