Overview
Martin Scorsese is to be honoured for documentaries about Bob Dylan and the blues.
The director, whose films include classics like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, is to receive an award from the Silverdocs Festival for his non-fiction work.
Scorsese has won acclaim for his Bob Dylan: No Direction Home film and seven-part TV series, Martin Scorsese Presents: The Blues.
Explaining their decision to honour Scorsese, festival director Patricia Finneran told BBC News: "It's about telling America's story, but it's also about telling a story with artistry. I think his stories about great musical artists really help us understand our American musical culture and national consensus."
The director will pick up his award in June when the festival takes place in the Washington suburb of Maryland, America.document.write(unescape("
