Bob Marley's Three Little Birds, a musical written by the reggae great's oldest daughter, Cedella, will play at New York's New Victory Theatre from February 7 to 23.
Cedella originally wrote a book of the same name after realizing that the original song was calming to her children. She told the Wall Street Journal "That was the song that could put them to bed at night and wake them up in the mornings. My middle son was getting bullied at school. He would come home crazy sad and I would hum the song to him."
The show also includes other Marley classics including One Love, Jamming, Roots Rock Reggae, Is This Love and I Shot the Sheriff. According to Cedella, the children in the audience knew the words to many of the songs when the show previewed in Washington.
In talking to the Wall Street Journal about the show, she said "It's really teaching our kids that no matter what their troubles or fears, there's still a little bit of sunshine out there. It's up to the parents and the village, the Bible will tell you. You have to surround yourself with good people so you can grow into great people. I think the lyrics, the music and performance will entertain everybody, young and old."
