After the 27-year-old's recent death at her home in Camden Square fans had been writing messages to her on the street signs and leaving their own tributes nearby.
However Camden Council is asking that the thieves who stole the signs from near her home to return them to a local police station after offering an amnesty as they had planned on giving them to the singer's family.
Sue Vincent, the deputy leader of the council, told BBC News: 'We are appealing to the good nature and conscience of the person or persons who stole the signs and are asking for them to be returned.
'We are not concerned with who took them, and will not be investigating this if we get them back. The signs can be returned to any police station in Camden and no questions will be asked.'
