Cliff Richard has issued a statement, expressing his disappointment at having his upcoming US gig with Morrissey cancelled, after The Smiths' star fell ill.
Morrissey has cancelled a string of US shows, blaming a 'horrendous cold' he picked up from support act Kristeen Young - which she has said is nothing more than 'lies'. His illness has also affected an upcoming live show with Cliff Richard, which would have made for one of the most unusual live pairings in recent memory, which has also now been axed.
"Cliff and the CRO (Cliff Richard Organisation) are very disappointed to confirm that Morrissey has just cancelled the remaining dates on his tour, including the Barclay Center, Brooklyn, NYC on 21st June 2014 where Cliff was to perform as Morrissey's Special Guest," said a statement on behalf of Richard and the CRO.
"The CRO apologies for the inconvenience to fans and wishes Morrissey a full and speedy recovery."
The virus Morrissey reportedly contracted led to the former Smiths icon allegedly being hospitalised in Miami for an "acute fever", and caused him to collapse after his Boston show. Young was then asked to leave the tour until she was better, but according to Morrissey's camp she pulled out of the tour entirely.
